Before Night Falls

Before Night Falls spans the whole of the brilliant Cuban author Reinaldo Arenas' life, from his poverty-stricken childhood to his persecution, torture and exile from Fidel Castro's Cuba. It is a vivid portrait of a remarkably talented and responsive man and a piercing account of political, artistic and sexual repression.

The film boasts an extraordinary cast, headed by Javier Bardem (Live Flesh), whose interpretation of Arenas earned him both Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor. His co-stars include Johnny Depp (Blow) and Sean Penn (Sweet and Lowdown).
