1981. Jean-Michel Basquiat becomes catapulted from being an unknown graffiti artist living rough on the streets, to being to darling of New York's art critics. After a chance meeting, he sells some sketches to Andy Warhol (David Bowie) and it isn't long before Basquiat is the talk of the town. Now earning huge amounts of money for single paintings the "Jimi Hendrix of the art scene" lived the rock 'n' roll lifetsyle of sex and drugs to the excess. In spite of his fame, this constantly stoned young artist walked the path of self destruction, never coming to terms with the phenomenal success that led to his demise...
